Welcome, I’m glad you’re here.
It can be intense out there, especially for queer and trans folks, caregivers, artists, activists, and anyone who is working hard to show up with care and integrity in the world. I see you, and if you’re here, chances are good you’re in the right place.
All therapists have sweet spots in our work - certain folks and experiences where we can be most helpful, due to our unique combination of lived experience, training, professional development, and interest. Here are a few of mine.
If any parts, or combinations of these resonate with you, I may be a good fit of therapist, and I’d love to meet with you.
Oldest or adultified child
Neurodivergent overachiever, exhausted from masking
Feeling guilty for needing external validation
Trying to learn to love yourself just for being, not for doing
Needing a space where you can be “a mess” and still seen as worthy
Kinda knew you were trans as a kiddo (felt different, “something wrong with me”, punished for gender non-conforming behavior or dress) and had to hide it, even from yourself
Considered or attempted suicide, and need space to process the impact of feeling so hopeless or afraid without being immediately assumed to need hospitalization
Now you’re older, unpacking how amazing your transness is, AND how costly it has been
Needing a therapist who gets it, who can hold the heaviness without ever leaving out the joy
Grew up in Christianity and/or purity culture
Turns out you’re queer, trans, and/or nonmonogamous
Learning and unlearning ways of relating to yourself, others, and the divine
Running into internalized shame, rigidity, perfectionism, injured attachment, and trauma
Determined to do the inner work that you can for yourself, your loved ones, and your community
Background and Approach
I’m Janelle Peters (they/them), a queer person, performer, and Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Colorado. I have been working in the mental health field since 2013. I completed my MSW degree in 2016 at the University of Southern California.
My therapeutic style is affirming, collaborative, and grounded in my values of anti-oppression, social justice, and liberation. I use emotionally focused, somatic and cognitive tools with clients, and practice in a relational/psychodynamic manner - which is to say that our therapeutic relationship is one of the main factors in my clients’ progress. I’m always happy to answer questions about how I work, and my therapeutic approach.
Where Do We Meet?
My office is currently fully virtual. Therapy and sessions are available to any resident of Colorado, or Wyoming. Coaching sessions are available worldwide. Please note you must have privacy (video and audio) as well as a strong internet connection for all sessions.
How much does therapy cost?
I believe that cost should not be a barrier to healing. If you have limited resources or finances, please feel free to ask about discounted slots - I have limited pro-bono, low-fee, and mid-fee slots, and a dedicated waitlist for folks needing them.
Individual therapy, and Person-Centered Coaching with me cost $180/session. I also offer lower-fee slots for client experiencing financial difficulty. Each session is 55 minutes long.
Couples/Relationship therapy costs $245/session. I also offer lower-fee slots for client experiencing financial difficulty. Each session is 75 minutes long.
Caregiver Coaching costs $200/session. Each session is 55 minutes long.
You are entitled to a good-faith estimate of the total cost of your mental health care. The total cost is impacted by several factors, and I am always willing to discuss these with you openly.
Services
In Individual Therapy I am most effective with clients experiencing anxiety, trauma, religious or spiritual trauma, self-harm, major life changes, difficulty with healthy boundaries, difficulty with self-esteem, stress, eating disorders, issues particular to queer folks, activists, dancers, athletes, artists, sex workers, and performers.
In Person-Centered Coaching I offer a non-medicalized, trauma-informed support service for folks who want to work toward specific goals, greater self-awareness, improved relationships, and deeper integrity within themselves. Coaching does not include diagnosis, or treatment of any “disorder”, and is often more future-oriented than therapy. Person-Centered Coaching is available for clients anywhere in the world.
I offer Couples/Relationship Therapy as well, with a specific focus on supporting clients as their relationships shift or change. This is especially useful for relationships where folks are deepening their commitment, or exploring changing their relationship structure.
I also offer Caregiver Coaching for the parents and/or caregivers of LGBTQIA2S+ youth or young adults. This coaching practice provides a brave space for caregivers to process their own relationship with gender and sexuality. I provide vocabulary, tools, and opportunities for reflection to support caregivers in being the adult their young person needs.
I am pleased to offer Peer Consultation for my fellow mental health professionals, as well as individual and small-group Clinical Supervision for Social Workers and LPC Candidates. I use a collaborative model that supports supervisees and consultees in strengthening the skills and talents they already have while also challenging them to develop their clinical skills and theoretical rationale as they gain experience in the field. My approach is rooted in my value of social justice, and supervision with me employs a developmental structure which is tailored to individual supervisees according to their professional experience, goals, and interests. Please contact me for rates for these services.
